The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the city government what difficulty it faced in shifting the protest site from Jantar Mantar to Ramlila Maidan in the national capital.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra directed the Delhi government as well as Delhi Police to explain through a map the exact location at Jantar Mantar where protests are presently allowed.

The court also asked Delhi Police to submit details on protests taking place, apart from the kind of permission required.

Area residents had approached the court to say that frequent protests and the number of protesters at the Jantar Mantar made it hard for persons living nearby to ingress and egress from their respective buildings.

The petition claimed that police was permitting protests in the public street between Tolstoy Marg and Ashoka Road and the road is obstructed every day due to protests.

Even emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire engines face obstruction due to presence of a large number of protesters, the plea said.
