2014, the betting paradise

With elections and the Indian Premier League (IPL) taking place at the same time, the betting syndicate in the country is gearing up for the biggest bonanza the year has brought for them. Betting is illegal in the country, but this doesn't really hinder a flourishing grey market. Like the stock markets, punters are already betting that Narendra Modi will be the next prime minister of India and IPL 7 will be won by the Chennai Super Kings, even though the team's owners are facing an investigation for betting. "This is a god-sent opportunity; if we lose money in elections by mid-May, we can always win it back in IPL," says a punter. Which makes you wonder whether the law enforcement agencies have a plan in hand.
