Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary J P Nadda announced the party's "ambitious" plan to renew its entire membership, as it does every six years. The target is to increase BJP membership by at least 20 per cent and the exercise will last from November 1 of the current year to March 31, 2015. Nadda said BJP President Amit Shah will make Prime Minister Narendra Modi the "first member" of the party on November 1, and in turn Modi will make Shah "the second member" of the party. This, however, will not be the first of Modi's "number one" epithets. Modi, at his victory rally in Vadodara on the day Lok Sabha elections results were announced on May 16, promised to be India's "mazdoor number one".
