Some ministers and senior officials in the Narendra Modi government have taken to using unlisted mobile phone numbers. As a result, they seldom answer calls made to their listed numbers any longer. Yet, during their days in the opposition, these ministers would readily answer calls on their regular numbers if the person at the other end was a journalist. Now, these ministers have got into the habit of calling back - only if they wish - from their unlisted numbers. The disadvantage that journalists suffer is that they cannot call back (because unlisted numbers don't show up on the phone screen), and now remain on tenterhooks in case they miss a call from an unlisted number.
