An alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Afzal Usmani on Friday escaped from Mumbai Police's custody.
Usmani managed to escape while he was being taken to a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai by a team of police officials.
He is a suspect in the 2008 Ahmedabad and Surat blast cases. A arrest warrant has been issued against him.
In 2008, his arrest led to a major breakthrough for the Mumbai crime branch, which had succeeded in cracking the Maharashtra module of the IM based on information from him.
