At least 10,000 demonstrators rallied in central Istanbul for a protest aimed at denouncing violence by Kurdish rebels.

Almost all waved Turkish flags under an anti-terrorism banner as speakers condemned terrorism and the violence which has rocked eastern Turkey since the resumption of fighting between the military and the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.

The protest was held under the banner: "Millions of breaths. One voice against terror."

The PKK is considered a terror organization by the Turkey, the US and the EU.

The rally, which was widely promoted across the city, took place under heavy police protection on Sunday. It featured a video montage of, among other things, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan set to stirring music.
