A 15-year-old tiger has died of old age illness in Thalawady forest area falling within Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in the district, officials said today.
The highly decomposed carcass of the tiger was found yesterday by forest personnel during a routine patrol after foul smell was emanating from the area.
Forest officials along with a veterinarian from Mudumalai Wild Life Sanctuary examined the tiger and estimated its age at 15 and said it must have died 15-16 days ago. The death was due to age and illness and no foul play suspected as the skin and claw were in tact.
After postmortem, the carcass was burnt, they said.
