An 18-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly strangling a minor boy to death after the victim's elder sister spurned his advances.

The incident took place in South West Delhi's Sagarpur area on April 28 when 12-year-old Prince had gone missing. His dead body was recovered the next day.

The accused identified as Lakhan, who hails from east Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the staff of southwest district police in this connection on Saturday.

"Lakhan had come to Delhi around eight years back for pursuing his studies. He started living with his sister and brother-in-law who lived as tenant of deceased's parents. He studied with sister of the boy and developed affection for her. Later on he shifted to a nearby Jagdamba Vihar and continued his love and affection for her," said Addition DCP (South West) Nupur Prasad.

The girl had spurned his advances and started avoiding him recently. Due to this, he developed grudge against her and the accused decided to teach the girl a lesson and allured her younger brother to a secluded place on the pretext of local excursion. He found an opportunity and strangulated his victim and threw the dead body in bushes, she added.

In order to ensure that nobody doubts him, he pretended to be caring and worried for the missing boy, and accompanied boy's family in search also. He has appeared in class XII exam this year.

Police had registered an FIR in this connection on April 28 after the victim's uncle had registered a missing complaint. The dead body was found the next day and a post-mortem report of the deceased indicated that he was strangulated.

"Initially there was no clue of any type as it was a blind case. Several known and familiar persons were interrogated to get any lead. Call details of many mobile numbers were analysed. Our team zeroed on Lakhan who had stayed as tenant at the house of deceased few years back," said Prasad.

He was apprehended and thoroughly interrogated. He confessed to have committed the crime during sustained interrogation, police said.
