Delhi Police have nabbed a 19-year -old youth from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly murdering his wife earlier this month in the Govindpuri area of south-east Delhi.

According to police, the body of the deceased woman, who was aged 25 years, was recovered on April 17 with her mother alleging that her son-in-law was responsible for the murder.

Subsequently, a case was registered against Shivam Singh, who was absconding since the recovery of his wife's body.

Teams were then constituted to arrest Singh and raids were conducted in Uttarakhand and UP to nab him. He finally fell into police's clutches in Bareilly on Friday.

"Singh confessed that on the night of April 15, he had gone out for a walk and, when he came back, found an unknown boy inside his house," said DCP (south-east district), Randeep Singh Randhawa.

According to the DCP, Singh said that before he could find out who the unknown visitor was, his wife had helped him escape from the house. Thereafter, at about 3 A.M., he strangulated her and fled, Randhawa said.

Singh told police that he was the second husband of the deceased woman and also claimed that she was 4-5 months pregnant.
