Two alleged members of a burglar gang were severely thrashed by a mob at a foundry at Liluah in Howrah district today.
Police said a three-member armed gang beat up the security guard of the SSI unit with revolver butt and took away the materials inside when the guard raised an alarm.
A mob soon gathered at the spot and caught hold of two of the three and thrashed them, police said.
The third one managed to flee.
The two were taken to hospital and their condition was critical.
