The three-day sesquicentennial celebrations of the private Town Higher Secondary school here came to a close today.
The school was started as a primary school on April 14, 1864 by M Martin, a retired head constable, and had eminent personalities such as maths wizard Srinivasa Ramanujan, former Union Minister T T Krishnamachary and historian Sadasiva Pandarathar as alumni.
Tamil Nadu Governor K.Rosaiah visited the school and paid floral tributes to a statue of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Unveiling a stone inscription commemorating the occasion, Shipping Minister G.K.Vasan announced a donation of Rs 20 lakh to the school on behalf of Ennore port.
