3 pilgrims die in bus accident

Three pilgrims were killed and 40 others injured today when the bus they were returning home met with an accident on National Highway-2 at Paraj in Burdwan district.

The police said they were returning from Pathar Chapri in nearby Birbhum district when the left front wheel of the bus came off and the bus overturned at about 7.30 pm.

Sk Lal (35) died on the spot and two siblings - Sk Jamu (40) and Sk Hara (30) - died at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital when they were rushed there.

A group of 75 residents of Burdwan town hired the bus and went for the pilgrimage.
 

"Five of the injured people have been referred to Kolkata and the rest are being treated here," District Magistrate Saumitra Mohan said after visiting the injured with the Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal.
