In a case of suspected food poisoning, over 60 hostel students of a nearby college at Moodbidri have been hospitalised after they started vomitting on eating food, police said.
The students fell sick after dinner last night and complained of stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea, they said.
District health officer H S Shivakumar in a statement today said the students were immediately taken to hospital and given necessary treatment.
He said the chief officer of the Moodbidri town municipal council had been directed to submit a report on the incident.
Meanwhile deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has ordered local bodies to inspect water tanks of educational institutions.
