The 70th Infantry Day was celebrated at nearby Wellington Military Station today.
On this day in 1947, the first contingent of Infantry had landed at Srinagar airfield and fought to save Kashmir Valley from intruders.
A solemn but impressive wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial of Madras Regimental Centre was organised, as part of the celebration, a release said.

Wreaths were laid in honour of those infantry men who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Brigadier Ajit Singh, (Retd), Brigadier G S Rathore of Defence Service Staff College, Brigadier S K Sangwan, Commandant of the Centre and other serving and retired senior Infantry officers and soldiers, laid wreaths, it said.
