8 officials deputed to monitor wheat procurement in Punjab

Punjab government has deputed eight senior bureaucrats to ensure smooth wheat procurement as Rabi Marketing season 2014-15 began yesterday.

As per the directions of Punjab Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Ludhiana districts would be monitored by IAS officer A Venuprasad, a spokesman said.

The charge of Muktsar and Faridkot districts has been given to Hussan Lal while A S Pannu has been allotted Patiala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Barnala districts.

Ashok Gupta has been allotted SAS Nagar and Rupnagar districts while V K Sharma has been allotted Ferozepur, Fazilka and Moga districts.

D K Tiwari has been given charge of Bathinda and Mansa districts, R Venkatratnam Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Pathankot districts and Vikas Partap SBS Nagar and Hoshiarpur districts, he said.
 

The state has directed these officials to personally visit the grain markets for monitoring the progress of wheat procurement on a daily basis so that this gigantic task could be accomplished in a hassle free, quick and smooth manner, the spokesman said.

These officials have been asked to make all out efforts to ensure smooth and prompt procurement of wheat and facilitate timely payment for farmers for their produce.
