A deputy engineer with Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation, arrested in Balganga dam project scam, today collapsed during the hearing of remand application and had to be taken to the hospital.

Rajesh Rithe, the accused, had earlier told the special judge for ACB cases V V Bambarde after being produced in the court that he had severe chest pain and also had a blood pressure problem.

Another accused, Nissar Khatri -- owner of the firm FA Enterprises -- was brought to the court from a private hospital where he had been admitted.

Khatri's lawyer Shaliesh Sadekar objected to his client being brought to the court in this condition as he wasn't well.

The court then asked another defence lawyer to make his argument. At this point, Rithe suddenly collapsed.

The court remanded both Khatri and Rithe in judicial custody till September 16, and directed the ACB to take both of them to the Thane Civil Hospital for medical check-up.
