Haryana Congress' first meeting of the newly constituted executive committee was stopped midway today as General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed had to leave due to a "sudden summon" from the high command.

"Shakeel Ahmed was to meet one-on-one with each Haryana Congress General Secretary and Vice President, but he received a call from high command and had to leave. Now the meeting stands postponed for a new date," AICC Secretary Asha Kumari, who is co-incharge of Haryana Congress political affairs told reporters here.

Congress had last month unveiled a jumbo 259-member committee, including 18 women for its Haryana unit in what marks a transition from the era of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to that of the incumbent state party chief Ashok Tanwar.

The list approved by party president Sonia Gandhi comprises 19 vice-presidents; a treasurer, 40 general secretaries; 103 secretaries; 38 organising secretaries; a 52-member executive committee and six permanent invitees.

The executive committee comprises politically seasoned senior leaders, including Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his MP son Deepender; former state chiefs Phool Chand Mullana and Balbeer Shah; legislator Randeep Surjewala; 80-plus serving president of Faridabad urban Congress BR Ojha, among others.

The section of vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries has a mix of old and new with the youngsters enjoying a clear edge.
