Lawyers of Madurai bench of the Madras High Court today began an indefenite boycott of the court to protest against police filing cases against the colleague on a complaint given by Police Special Sub Inspector Ramaswamy.

A special Sub Inspector and an advocate had exchanged blows near the mediation centre of the High Court on Wednesday over allegedly abusing a woman SI who reprimanded a clerk.

Advocates, who rushed to the spot on hearing the cries of the lawyer, locked SSI Ramasamy of Puthur Police Station and refused to free him.

The scuffle broke out over the lawyer allegedly abusing a woman SI for fighting with an advocate clerk and reprimanding him for speaking loudly near the court hall

Later the woman SI was allegedly forced to apologise and she then informed the SSI about the incident

The SSI questioned the lawyer, leading to a wordy duel and then a scuffle broke out.

The Members of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High court Bar Association took out a procession shouting slogans against the police and held two rounds of talks with Justice S Manikumar, which failed.

The Judge advised the advocates to face the cases legally and they could even file a petition to quash the FIR filed against them, which was rejected by them.
