The Amarnath yatra resumed today after normalcy returned to the Baltal base camp which witnessed clashes between ponywallas and community kitchen operators.

"The pilgrims stationed at Baltal base camp were allowed to move towards the holy cave shrine this morning," a police spokesman said.

He said the situation around Baltal, which witnessed clashes between pony owners and community kitchen operators yesterday, has returned to normal.

The clashes had forced suspension of the Amarnath yatra as at least 37 persons including few security force personnel were injured.

The incident took place yesterday morning at Dumail near Baltal area under Sonamarg, a picturesque tourist spot. An altercation broke out between 'langarwallahs', who run community kitchens for the pilgrims, and local pony owners, who take them through the rough terrain to the holy cave shrine.

However, the quarrel soon took a violent turn after the alleged high-handedness by CRPF personnel.
