A PhD scholar of city-based English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself, police said today.

C M Mohiuddin (33), a native of Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a madrasa near the EFLU campus, they said.

Mohiuddin had completed his PhD in Arabic language from EFLU and his guide Jahangir had got him admitted to the madrasa, where he had been staying for the past three days, Osmania University (OU) Police Inspector P Ashok told PTI.

A suicide note in Tamil, purportedly written by Mohiuddin, was found near his body. It stated that he was resorting to the extreme step "due to some personal problems" and that "he was fed up with life and not eligible to live in this world," the inspector said quoting the note.

Mohiuddin's body was sent to Chennai after a post-mortem was conducted and further police investigations were on.

In March this year, a 29-year-old PhD student from Jammu and Kashmir allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his hostel room on the EFLU campus, prompting wide-spread protests here and in Kashmir Valley.
