Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the state government would not give its consent to any hydro-electric power project which potentially threatens ecological balance.
Reacting to a reported news items on constructing several hydro-electric projects along the Lower Subansiri Sub-basin, Gogoi said the Centre has not consulted with the state on the issue.
Without environmental impact assessment, the state government will not endorse any power projects, Gogoi said, adding that the government has also not been taken into confidence regarding this development.
"We will oppose any hydro-electric projects which have adverse effects on environment and its constituents," Gogoi added.
