Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Governor Banwarilal Purohit today condoled the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

In his condolence message, Purohit termed Jayalalithaa as a leader who made all efforts to make Tamil Nadu advanced on all fronts.

"Tamil Nadu has lost a true leader and a mother, whose laudable actions developed Tamil Nadu economically. She was a symbol of strength for women who focussed primarily on the marginalised communities in society and served as the voice of the voiceless and oppressed," he said.

Sonowal said, "A very popular and dynamic leader, J Jayalalithaa was a long-serving chief minister, who served the people very passionately."

The country has lost a leader of immense potential, he says adding Jayalalithaa's death is premature and untimely and is bound to create a void.

Sonowal has already sent Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary to go to Chennai to pay homage to her on behalf of the state Government.
