Head of a radical Sunni muslim outfit Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Maulana (ASWJ) Aurangzeb Farooqi escaped unhurt after his vehicle was attacked by some unknown assailants at the Quaidabad bridge near here, party sources said.

While Farooqi escaped unhurt in the attack that occurred late last night, three of his security guards were injured in the firing, an ASWJ spokesman said.

"Unknown men opened fire on the convoy of our leader at the Quaidabad bridge near Landhi but he remains safe," the spokesman said.

The sectarian leader has in the past survived similar assassination attempts.

His car was attacked in Korangi area in May, 2013 but he managed to escape.

In 2012, his convoy was attacked in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in Karachi in which he was injured while five people in his convoy were killed, including three policemen and a security guard.
