Police today foiled a bid to loot an ATM in Uttam Nagar area in west Delhi and managed to apprehend one of the two culprits involved in the act.
Vinay (20), a resident of Najafgarh area, was nabbed, while his partner managed to flee, as an alert PCR team rushed to the spot after receiving information that the two were trying to breaking an ATM, at 1.55 am.
"PCR Van, MPV (P-49) was given this call following which SI (driver) Prakash Singh and SI Ram Kishan rushed to the spot and found that two persons were breaking the ATM machine. As soon as they spotted the police, one of them shouted and managed to flee," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Operations) Ranvir Singh.

Kishan apprehended Vinay after a minor scuffle, he said.
"The arrested accused worked at a photo framing shop. We have not come across any of his previous involvements and it seems that both of them were rookies. His associate has also been identified and he too would be nabbed soon," said another police official.
A hammer and a chisel, used by the duo to pull out the ATM, were recovered from the spot.
The ATM, which belonged to UCO bank did not have a security guard when the incident took place. Police said it will ask the bank authorities as to why there was this laxity on their part.
A case under sections of 380/511/34 IPC has been registered at Uttam Nagar Police Station.
