The central government- owned NJMC jute mill at Khardah in West Bengal stopped production today following suspension of work by authorities.
The notice to this effect was put up at the mill gates this morning, sub-divisional officer Purnendu Majhi said.
However, the reason for the suspension of work at the mill was not immediately known.

Following the suspension of work, workers blocked the busy arterial Barrackpore Trunk Road.
Additional Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore Commissionerate, Suresh Kumat Chatvi said the blockade lasted for about three hours and was withdrawn after police intervened.
The mill has about 3,000 employees and the closure is the second one in the state in seven days.
Work at Delta Jute Mill at Sankrail in Howrah district, which has about 4,000 employees, both casual and permanent, was temporarily suspended on September 9 citing lack of raw material supply and low production.
