Asking the minorities to be conscious of their rights, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today said it was partly the responsibility of the educated sections of these communities to ensure that the less privileged among them got their due.

"The minorities should be conscious of their rights. Part of the responsibility to ensure that they got their due as per Contitutional provisions rests on shoulders of the intellectuals belonging to these communities," he said.

Addressing a seminar here on the the occasion of the World Minorities Day, Bahuguna issued instructions to hold a conference of minorities in all districts in the state.

Seminars should be held to create awareness about the facilities the minorities were entitled to under the Constitution, he said.

Those among the minorities who have moved up the social ladder should think of those who have lagged behind and take inititives to help them join the social mainstream, Bahuguna told the seminar organised by the state Minorities Commission.
