Press Trust of India Mumbai
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik today came down heavily on Maharashtra food and civil supplies minister Girish Bapat, whose two decisions have been recently struck down by the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High court.

Speaking to reporters, Malik said, Bapat should step down as he tried to reinstate a banned self help group (SHG).

Malik said, "Most of the SHGs are operated by women and it is meant for providing some capital and business opportunities for the group members.

"The way Bapat issued directives (to reinstate banned SHGs) to the deputy secretary of his department, Aurangabad bench of high court has objected it on August 23."

It was unprecedented, the court had observed.

Similarly, a SHG from Beed district -- Savitribai Phule Bachat Gut was banned in 2011 but Bapat used his ministerial powers to reinstate it.

Such actions should be punished, Malik said.

It also shows that this government is more in favour of people with money than the actual needy ones, Malik alleged.
