Objecting to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's reported dig at the BJP-led government in Haryana, Punjab BJP today said he should have avoided doing so.
"He (Sukhbir Singh Badal) should have avoided making such statement. We (SAD-BJP) rather should concentrate on normalising situation in Punjab," Punjab BJP President Kamal Sharma said here today.
He was asked to respond to Sukhbir's reported dig at the BJP government in Haryana on November 1 at an INLD rally at Rohtak.
Deputy Chief Minister and SAD President Sukhbir had said that "during INLD rule, Haryana progressed", and added "for the last 11 years, 'sarkar naam ki cheez he nahein hein' (it appears for last 11 years government doesn't exist in Haryana)".
While Sukhbir might have taken a dig at the 10-year Congress rule in Haryana (2005-2014), in his speech at the rally he had also included the one-year tenure of the BJP government, which came to power in the state in October 2014.
"When we enter Haryana from Punjab, we see broken roads, villages in bad shape, no electricity and harassment of farmers," Sukhbir had said.
Sharma, however, said he did not raise this issue in a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today.
Sharma said the Punjab chief minister today held a meeting to brief about the ongoing situation in the state. "Our discussion remained on Punjab related issues," he added.
SAD is a key ally of BJP and has been sharing power with the the saffron party in Punjab since 2007.
However, SAD had fought the 2014 Haryana assembly elections in alliance with INLD, to which many Haryana BJP leaders had raised objection.
