The neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana have stressed the need for having uniformity in tax structure in northern states.

Punjab's Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who called on Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here today also discussed various other issues of common interest, according to an official spokesman here.

Khattar said that uniformity in tax structure would not only assist in promoting seamless trade across northern states but also prevent diversion and evasion of tax because of unhealthy practices.

Both the leaders held discussions on topics of mutual interest and agreed to take the co-operation among both the states to the higher level in various sectors, the spokesman said.

Sukhbir Badal's meeting comes close on the heels of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal meeting Khattar at a breakfast meeting here, in which the two CMs held detailed deliberations to further increase the cooperation between two states in the areas of agriculture, tourism and road network.
