Black pepper gains in lacklustre trade

Black pepper prices gained in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today due to good demand from retailers as well as exporters.

Meanwhile, ginger and copra prices ruled stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Black pepper climbed by Rs 10/15 per to Rs 565/625 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 555/610.

Following are today's closing rates in Rs with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 565/625 (555/610), ginger bleached (per kg) 265 (265), ginger unbleached (per kg) 285 (285), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 9,300 (9,300), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,200 (9,200), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 10,800 (10,800), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 10,200 (10,200).
