Boy run over in city, locals block road

A Six-year-old boy was run over and killed by a mini-truck in the city today, following which local people damaged several cars and blocked a key road leading to Sealdah rail station, police said.

Priyansu Sonkar died under the wheels of a mini-truck on Beliaghata Main Road near Sealdah this afternoon.

Angry with the accident, local people rushed to the area, smashed a number of vehicles and put up a road blockade which resulted in a major traffic snarl in both central and eastern part of the city, police said.

Driver of the mini truck was arrested and the mini truck impounded, the sources said.
 

Normal traffic was restored nearly after two hours with deployment of additional force.
