A man today alleged that his 15-year-old son was fast losing his hearing after being beaten by his school teacher inside the classroom a fortnight ago.

Amit Das of Friends' Colony alleged his son, who is now studying in Class X at a Public School here, was assaulted by the school's physics teacher on July 30.

"Due to repeated banging of my son's head against the blackboard, he has suffered injuries in his left eye and left ear. While the injured eye is now recuperating, my son has now lost hearing in his left ear," Das told reporters in presence of school's parents association members.

Quoting his son, Amit said the teacher concerned was coaxing several students of his class to come to his house for private tuition.

"The frustrated teacher was constantly intimidating the students, including my son on this issue since they had refused to take private tuitions," he said.

"On the ill-fated day, the teacher singled out my son and vented out his ire as he had asked the teacher to clear his doubts on certain chapters," the father said, adding he had brought this to the notice of the school principal, who was expressing helplessness as the teacher had left after putting in his papers.

Amit has filed a written complaint with the local Mangalabag police station. The police were investigating the issue after registering a case.

When contacted, the police said they have gathered prima facie evidence against teacher Rupak Mohanty and efforts were on to nab him and he has been booked under sections 341, 323, 325, 294, 506 and 34 of the IPC.
