Calf rescued from irrigation well

A ten-month-old elephant calf was today rescued from a 25-feet deep dried irrigation well at Chikkapalli village, 120 km from here.
Forest officials said the calf, which had come with a herd of 12 elephants, accidentally fell into the irrigation well in the wee hours.
The herd gathered around the well and trumpeted for some time and left after damaging the crops nearby.
