Canara Bank today opened 35 branches in the remote villages of West Bengal where no banking service was available.
Launcing these branches at a function at the new state secretariat, state's Finance Minster Amit Mitra welcomed the initiative and hoped more such banks would come forward to cover other remote areas without any banking system.
The state government has provided Canara Bank with premises for the branches at Gram Panchayat (GP) offices at a nominal rent of Rs 1 per annum for a period of ten years.
