Veteran actress Carol Burnett has been honoured with the prestigious Mark Twain Award in recognition for her achievements in the entertainment industry.

The 80-year-old 'The Carol Burnett Show' star was overwhelmed when she received the award at Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, reported USA Today.

"I'm overwhelmed, totally overwhelmed, I just hope after tonight they'll knock me down a few pegs because I think I'm getting a really big head," Burnett said.

The actress was praised by her long time friend Julie Andrews, who celebrated their 55 years of friendship.

"My squeaky clean image goes right out of the window when I'm with her," Andrews told the audience.

Vicki Lawrence, Tina Fey and Tony Bennet congratulated the actress for her achievements.
