A case was today registered against three policemen, including the SHO of Shahabad police station, for allegedly extorting money from an NRI with the help of a woman, police said.

The orders to this effect were issued by Superintendent of Police (SP), Kurukshetra Simardeep Singh.

The complainant, whose identity was not revealed by police, alleged that the accused policemen, along with a woman, had extorted Rs 5 lakh by blackmailing him.

Acting on the complaint, Shahabad Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar, Sub-inspector Virender and head constable Sukhpal were suspended by SP yesterday.

The preliminary investigation has been marked to Shahabad Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anil Yadav.

SP said since the allegations were serious, an FIR was registered on the basis of the interim report.
