Union minister Kapil Sibal today said that the Centre is providing ample funds to states under various schemes to ensure all-round development of girl child.
The Telecommunication Minister, while speaking as a chief guest at a college function here, noted that a safe and secure environment is necessary to help girls continue education.
Earlier, Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa, in his address, noted that the society cannot make progress without ensuring proper education for girls.

If the girl is educated, she would be an asset not only to her parents, but to in-laws and the society as a whole and a self dependent and educated girl can fight against social evils like dowry and female foeticide, bajwa noted.
He emphasised that it was duty of state government to provide free education to the girls.
"Unfortunately, Punjab government led by SAD-BJP lacked vision in this direction and discontinued free education for girls till graduation level," Bajwa said.
