A special NDPS court today granted bail to Sanjiv Bhatnagar, CEO of an e-publishing firm who was arrested on June 10 for alleged possession of 3.88 grams of cocaine worth Rs 20,000 in illegal market.

The Special Judge for NDPS cases, Justin David, who granted bail to Bhatnagar, directed him to execute a personal bond and two sureties and an immovable property too as surety.

Bhatnagar's counsel argued that 3.88 grams does not come under commercial quantity of the contraband and therefore restrictions made under Section 37 of Narcotics Drugs and Phycotropic Subsrances Act are not attracted in the case.

Bhatnagar's bail petition was earlier dismissed by this court on June 17.

Bhatnagar was arrested on June 10 moments after he allegedly took delivery of a parcel containing cocaine from a courier office here.

He had come along with his driver to take delivery of the contraband. However, his driver was let off after it was found that he had no role in either the procurement or use of the drug.

During questioning, Bhatnagar had said he was using cocaine for the past about one year.
