Chana prices surged by 3.51 per cent to Rs 3,600 per quintal in futures trade today after speculators enlarged positions amid positive cues from spot market on strong demand.

Besides, tight supplies on reports of likely lower output this year supported the rally.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in January jumped by Rs 122, or 3.51 per cent, to Rs 3,600 per quintal with an open interest of 70,410 lots.

In a similar fashion, the commodity for delivery in February gained Rs 55, or 1.56 per cent, to Rs 3,580 per quintal in 45,730 lots.

Analysts said besides strong demand in spot market, tight supplies from major producing belts led to the rise in chana prices in futures trade.
