Warehouse of a private chemical unit near Rajavaram in the district today gutted in fire.
However, nobody was injured in the incident.
"The blaze started at around 5:40 PM in the warehouse of Deccan Chemicals. The incident created panic among the residents of surrounding localities as the entire area was engulfed by thick black plumes," said D Chandrasekhara Varma, Joint Chief Inspector of Factories.
Electrical short circuit is suspected to be the cause behind the mishap.
Elamanchili police station inspector, K Venkata Rao said that eight fire fighters from Payakaraopeta and Tuni areas could manage to put out the flames after three hours.
The fire gutted a large quantity of chemicals and other materials.
