West Singhbhum police assures contractors of security cover

The West Singhbhum district police has assured the contractors, engaged in various road construction work in the naxal-affected areas, to provide adequate security to complete the ongoing road projects.

A meeting of the DIG (Kolhan), R K Dhan, senior district police including Superintendent of Police Michael Raj, Sub-divisional Police Officer (Chkradharpur), officials of NPCC and REO department as well as the concerned contractors was held at Chaibasa today and discussed about a report published in a Hindi daily which stated that 14 roads in the Naxal-affected areas remained incomplete owing to the demand of levy by ultras while construction work of 50 roads got stalled.
 

Following the discussion with the officials of the concerned departments and contractors, Michael Raj said it was known that out of the 14 roads, construction work of seven were stalled for non-payment of fund by the government, two roads construction work was continuing while the department was waiting for no-objection certificate from forest department to start construction work of two other roads.

The construction work of three roads were stalled following an incident involving naxals in 2014, he said claiming that the construction work of all other roads was going on tardy pace.

Dhan has directed the district police to chalk out strategy accordingly after the contractors apprised their security related issues in the meeting and assured to provide adequate security as per the need to complete the roads projects at the earliest.

He also asked the contractors and officials to consult the Superintendent of Police in case of any problem.
