Even as the BJP, led by Raman Singh managed to have a last laugh in the seesawing battle against Congress to win in Chhattisgarh, the opposition party has an edge over the ruling party in securing overall voting percentage.
Out of total of the 90 seats that went to Assembly polls held in two phases in November, BJP won 49 seats, Congress 39, BSP 1 and Independent 1.
In 2008, BJP got 50 seats, Congress 38 and BSP two.
BJP slightly improved its voting percentage by 0.71% to 41.04% this time from 40.33% it had clocked in 2008.
A total of 13017236 votes were cast this election. The poll percentage for the saffron party stood at 39.26% in 2003.
However, the Congress which contested polls, mainly on the issue of the state government's inability to provide security to its leaders who were killed in Darbha naxal attack, has improved its share by 1.66% to 40.29%.
Congress' vote percentage stood at 38.63% and 36.71% in 2008 and 2003, respectively.
The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) has secured 4.27% of total votes cast in 2013, down by 1.84% from 6.11% it had clocked in 2008. Its share in 2003 elections stood at 4.45%.
