Christmas was celebrated today throughout Nagaland without reports of any untoward incident.
The celebrations kicked off since early evening yesterday with people arranging camp fires, while midnight services were held in many churches for repentance and forgiveness.
With clear skies, people in their best attires thronged the churches since morning today for prayers and later on exchanged greetings and gifts, visited relatives and friends and took part in community feats.
The capital city was decked up up for Christmas and the forthcoming New Year celebrations as government and private buildings as well as street corners were illuminated and decorated with Christmas trees, banners and festoons.
Wishing a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year to the people of the state, Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar said 2013 had been "extraordinarily important" for Nagaland, witnessing the election of a new government in the beginning of the year and the golden jubilee celebrations of Nagaland statehood at the end.
"On the joyous occasion of Christmas, let us dedicate ourselves to serve the people with love, compassion and humility," he said in a message.
