A class 9 student today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room here, police said.
The student was found hanging at his Tali Morh residence in the city, Sub-inspector Joginder Singh said.
Singh said preliminary investigations suggested that the boy had committed suicide but the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately.
However, he said there was no indication that the boy committed suicide under the influence of the Blue Whale game which was earlier perceived by his relatives and neighbours.
The rumours about the suicide by the boy under the influence of the game was making rounds soon after the news of his death spread, Singh said.
He said the inquest proceedings have been initiated in connection with the death of the boy.
