To ensure fair polls in Chhattisgarh, the Opposition Congress has demanded removal of government officials posted at one place for several years.

In a letter to the Election Commission, the party has demanded shifting of officials posted at the same place for three years, as this would directly or indirectly affect polls, Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said here.

The Congress also demanded changes in the portfolios of officials posted in the secretariat and police headquarters for a long time as they will play crucial roles in conducting polls, Shukla said.

Alleging that such officials seem to be tilted towards the ruling government and could influence the electoral process, he said the changes must be done to ensure free and fair polls.

"Chhattisgarh will see a two-phased polling in November for its 90 constituencies. As many as 18 Maoist-affected constituencies of the state's southern region will witness polls during the first phase on November 11, while the rest of the 72 constituencies will go to polls during the second phase on November 19," he said.
