Convict hangs self in jail in Uttarakhand

A rape and murder convict serving a life term in Haridwar district prison allegedly hanged himself in the jail washroom today, authorities said.

Ramesh Singh alias Raju was found hanging in the washroom of the jail this morning by fellow inmates. He was rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last, Haridwar district jail superintendent Sukhija said.

Convicted in a rape, murder and loot case, Ramesh had been brought to Haridwar district jail on November 24 last year to serve a life term, he said.
