Cop among 10 injured in poll violence

At least 10 persons, including a policeman, were injured when people clashed with the police as it tried to stop distribution of sweets by a Pradhan's post candidate in violation of the model code of conduct at Ahmadabad village here.

Police said the incident happened last night when they raided the village where Afsad Hussain, Pradhan's post candidate, was allegedly distributing sweets among his electorates.

People resisted the raid and resorted to stone pelting in which constable Charan Singh received injuries in his head, police said.

People also ransacked our vehicle, they said, adding reinforcement was called in from adjoining police station to control the mob and seize sweets, furniture and tentage.
 

Police have registered case of violation of model code of conduct and violence against 50 persons including Afsad.

Two supporters of the candidate have been arrested while others are being looked out for, police said.

The polling in the area is going on today.

In another incident police have arrested a candidate and two others in Sacatua village for allegedly distributing cash among the electorates.

Police said they are investigating the matter further.
