Copper down by 0.7% on weak global cues

Speculators reduced their positions amidst weak global cues

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper prices fell by 0.66% to Rs 378.35 per kg in futures trade today on speculators reducing their positions amidst weak global cues.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April fell by Rs 2.50, or 0.66%, to Rs 378.35 per kg in a business turnover of 56 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in February was down by Rs 2.30, or 0.61%, to Rs 61 per kg in 1,201 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to weak global trend and subdued demand in the spot markets.

Meanwhile, in Shanghai, the March copper contract dropped 0.8% to 43,610 yuan ($7,029) a tonne after earlier reaching 43,240 yuan, the lowest for a most-active contract since July 2009, while metal for delivery in three month was trading at $6,025 per tonne at the London Metal Exchange.
