Copper falls by 0.4% on global cues

Subdued spot demand also affected prices

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper prices fell by 0.42% to Rs 369.20 per kg in futures trade today amid a weak trend in global markets and subdued spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June shed Rs 1.55, or 0.42%, to Rs 369.20 per kg in a business turnover of 18 lots.

The metal for delivery in April traded lower by Rs 1.75, or 0.37%, to Rs 364.25 per kg in 383 lots.

Analysts attributed fall in copper futures to weak global cues after China's imports of the metal fell by the most in four years, indicating demand is weakening in the largest consumer.

Globally, copper for delivery in three months fell 0.2%, to $5,731.50 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange and metal for delivery in May slid 1.4% to 41,780 yuan ($6,668) a tonne on the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
