Copper weakens in thin trade

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper prices fell by Rs 2 per kg at the local non-ferrous market today due to reduced offtake by consuming industries amid a weak global trend.

However, other base metals, after moving in a tight range in the absence of worthwhile activity, settled steady.

Traders said low demand from consuming industries and a weak global trend mainly led to decline in copper prices.

Besides, absence of cues from London Metal Exchange (LME), which remained closed today on account of "Christmas", also weighed on sentiments here.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in March fell 0.2 per cent to 45,550 yuan (USD 7,340) a metric tonne on the Shanghai Exchange.

In the national capital, copper mixed scrap shed Rs 2 to Rs 420 per kg.

Following are today's metal rates (in Rs per kg):

Zinc ingot 114-120, Nickel plate (4x4) 1,091-1,097, Gun metal scrap 227, Bell metal scrap 229, Copper mixed scrap 420, Chadri deshi 285.

Lead ingot 106, Lead imported 107, Aluminium ingots 166, Aluminium sheet cutting 167, Aluminium wire scrap 169 and Aluminium utensils scrap 166.
